MY STORY

PARACHUTES TEEN CLUB & RESOURCE CENTER
Located at the Dimond Mall in Anchorage, Alaska, Parachutes is a
drop-in center for teens, ages thirteen to eighteen. Parachutes has
various activities such as video games, pool, computers, ping-pong,
a small café, special events and most importantly - caring adult
volunteers who want to share their lives with teens.
Parachutes is a place where kids can feel safe from the hardships
of life. The teens that stop in come from diverse backgrounds and
ethnicity, but the common thread with many is that they have an
unstable or unhealthy home environment.

Through relationships, Parachutes demonstrates the
unconditional love of Jesus to teenagers by seeking to minister to
their physical, social and spiritual needs.

Activities at Parachutes are motivated by a love for Jesus Christ.
That can include giving teens a safe, social space monitored by
adults or can mean providing a refuge when a teen needs to escape
from their home environment for a couple hours. For teens who are
distrustful of adults, the volunteers at Parachutes provide a
consistent and safe presence and are willing to help teens sort
through life issues. Many teens need to complete school and
on-site referrals and tutoring help them do that. Teens lacking the
skills needed to get and keep a job can apply to the Job Training
Program where they will learn to acquire and hold a job in the real
world.
At Parachutes we welcome teens of all spiritual backgrounds and
beliefs and are willing to discuss our belief in Jesus with anyone.
Parachutes opened in April 2003 and sees an average of 60-80 kids
during a weekday and 200+ on the weekends.
